The Barrio Gótico (Gothic quarter) is the heart of the city. Its two main squares draw millions of tourists every year. In one, visitors flock to the Cathedral, while in Plaza Sant Jaume sightseers can admire Barcelona’s stately administrative seats, the Ayuntamiento and the Palau de la Generalitat.
In the Gothic quarter the past rubs shoulders with the present, creating the ideal environment for a romantic stroll, a night out with friends or a cultural tour. Palaces, reminders of Barcelona’s Jewish residents, streets filled with handicraft stalls and medieval squares exist alongside a wide range of shopping outlets, both historic and modern, such as Custo Barcelona in Ferran street.
