{"id":142,"date":"2024-04-12T14:03:32","date_gmt":"2024-04-12T14:03:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rentbcn.com\/blog\/2024\/04\/12\/walkaround-gaudi-walks\/"},"modified":"2024-04-19T13:49:22","modified_gmt":"2024-04-19T13:49:22","slug":"walkaround-gaudi-walks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rentbcn.com\/blog\/en\/2024\/04\/12\/walkaround-gaudi-walks\/","title":{"rendered":"Walkaround (Gaudi walks)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Walkaround (Gaudi walks)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We wanted to dedicate a complete <em>\u201cwalkaround\u201d<\/em> post based on the works of<a href=\"http:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Antoni_Gaud%C3%AD\"><strong> Antoni Gaudi<\/strong><\/a>, but\u00a0not only are<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-191\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rentbcn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/gaudi-300x133-1.jpg\" alt=\"gaudi\" width=\"343\" height=\"152\" \/> there so many to cover in one day&#8217;s walk but they all deserve more than a mere walk-by. Most require a couple of hours to visit and one or two are located a fair walk from the city centre. So, here are a few walks which take in the <em>Gaudi attractions<\/em> and incorporate other interesting parts of the city&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Walk 1 \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sagrada_Fam%C3%ADlia\">Sagrada Familia<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps <em>the most famous and controversial of the Gaudi landmarks<\/em>, it remains a work-in-progress<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-190 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rentbcn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/sagrada-familia-1-272x300-1.jpg\" alt=\"sagrada-familia-1\" width=\"272\" height=\"300\" \/>\u00a0since 1882 and was estimated to be only 15 \u2013 25% completed when Gaudi died in 1926. This Roman Catholic basilica began life as <em>Antoni Gaudi&#8217;s modernisme interpretation of a gothic church<\/em>. It was consecrated for religious services in 2010 by Pope Benedict XVI. Due for completion in 2026, it will have a total of 18 spires and reflect as much of Gaudi&#8217;s original plans as has been possible to piece together. Want to read more?&#8230;. <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sagrada_Fam\u00edlia\">http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Sagrada_Fam%C3%ADlia<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you want to enter Sagrada we would advise <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sagradafamilia.cat\/sf-cast\/docs_serveis\/infoTarifesInd.php\">booking in advance online<\/a> as the queue can take hours, timed entry tickets are available which allow you to bypass the long queue \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p><strong>Route:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/visit.sagradafamilia.cat\/?lang=en#arribar\">Start at Metro Verdaguer and head north-east along Carrer de Provenca.<\/a>&#8230;.Sagrada Familia is no more than 5 blocks away.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-192 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rentbcn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Monumental-300x225-1.jpg\" alt=\"Monumental\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/>Once you&#8217;ve taken in the magnificence of Sagrada make your way to the north-east face (<em>the Nativity \u2013 the more worn looking side<\/em>), this should be Carrer Marina. Head south-east along Marina, after 4 or 5 blocks you will arrive at the <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/La_Monumental\">Arenas Monumental<\/a>. This is the site of one of Barcelona&#8217;s bullfighting rings, thankfully now a museum and exhibition centre.<\/p>\n<p>Continue south-east along Carrer Marina (<em>the more eagle-eyed might spot the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.torreagbar.com\/home.asp\">Torre Agbar<\/a> off to the left<\/em> \u2013 although better viewed at night) and after Carrer de Casp head south along Carrer Ribes, which is more of a cycle path than a street or road.<\/p>\n<p>This will take you past<a href=\"https:\/\/www.barcelonanord.cat\/en\/home\/\"> Estacio del Nord bus station<\/a>, behind which sits a <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-193 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rentbcn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/arc-de-triomf-300x180-1.jpg\" alt=\"arc-de-triomf\" width=\"300\" height=\"180\" \/>little park and green space.\u00a0Continuing along Carrer Ribes brings you to <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arc_de_Triomf\">Arc del Triomf Metro station and monument<\/a>. Designed by <em>Josep Vilaseca<\/em>, it was created as the entrance to <em>the first Universal Exposition of 1888<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-194\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rentbcn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/gaudi-fountain-300x201-1.jpg\" alt=\"gaudi fountain\" width=\"289\" height=\"193\" \/>Pass through the Arc and head south-east along <em>Paseo de Llu\u00eds Companys<\/em> and into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.barcelona.cat\/en\/\">Parc de la Ciutadella<\/a>&#8230;.oh wow!! what a place! Want to see some life? Want to see how a park should be used? Here you&#8217;ll find so much&#8230;.<strong><em>museums, the city zoo, a tropical plant house, the Catalan parliament building, monuments, sculptures, a church, children&#8217;s playareas, a boating lake, a stone mammoth and the stunning Gaudi cascade fountain topped with the golden horse drawn chariot of Aurora and featuring the birth of Venus.<\/em><\/strong> It&#8217;s our favourite spot in the city to relax, meet family and friends, picnic and pass a beautiful sunny day, come join us!!<\/p>\n<p>Had enough?!? or do you want some more?&#8230;..well, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rentbcn.com\"><strong><em><strong>you do have to make your way back to your RentBCN <\/strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-195\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rentbcn.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/Mercat_del_Born-300x202-1.jpg\" alt=\"Mercat_del_Born\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" \/><\/em><em>apartment<\/em><em>&#8220;<\/em>.<\/strong><\/a>&#8230;.exit the park by the south corner, close to the zoo entrance. Head south-west along <em>Marques de l&#8217;Argentera with Montjuic mountain<\/em> in view, then take the first right into Carrer del Comer\u00e7. Here you will come across the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mercatdelborn.org\/en\/welcome\/\">Mercat del Born,<\/a>\u00a0 originally built in the 1870s. It fell into disuse in the 1970s and 80s. In 2002 work began to install a library within the building only for workers to discover <em>archaeological remains of medieval times dating back to the 14<sup>th<\/sup> century<\/em>. Since then the Catalan government have declared the site as a cultural asset of <em>national interest<\/em> and it is now fully restored as a cultural centre where the exposed medieval ruins can be experienced. A must see!<\/p>\n<p>Exit Mercat del Born back into Carrer Comer\u00e7 heading north-west, this will bring you to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.museuxocolata.cat\/?lang=en\">Chocolate museum<\/a>, you might be tempted to treat yourself here after such a long walk \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Continuing along <em>Carrer de Comer\u00e7 brings you back to Passeig de Lluis Companys and the Arc de Triomf.<\/em> Passing under the Arc again, head north-west along <em>Passeig de Sant Joan.<\/em> After 4 blocks pass through<em> Pla\u00e7a de Tetuan<\/em> and then after another 6 blocks you arrive where you began, at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.es\/maps\/place\/barcelona+verdaguer\/@41.400365,2.16806,15z\/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x66970392696fd86c?sa=X&amp;ei=g5JPVeefGIXuUpDWgPAF&amp;ved=0CIcBEPwSMAs\">Metro Verdaguer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Exhausted?! You should be! You are now back in the <em>Gr\u00e0cia district<\/em> and close to your apartment.
